Partial Dentures: What You Need to Know

There are many different kinds of partial dentures, but most of them use a combination of acrylic base materials, false teeth, and metal framework to attach to surrounding teeth and hold the denture in place.

The process of getting a partial denture will usually take a few appointments over the course of several weeks. During your first appointment at our Sarasota office, Dr. Miller will examine your mouth and take images and impressions of your teeth. Then, this information will be used by a third-party dental lab to create your partial denture.

Once your denture has arrived at our office, Sarasota dentist Dr. Miller will ensure that it fits properly and minor adjustments will be made, if necessary. Once your denture fits perfectly, you’ll be given care instructions and you’ll leave our office with a fresh, complete smile!

Getting a new Smile With Full-Arch Dentures

Full arch dentures are usually only recommended if most or all of your teeth are damaged or missing. If you have multiple infected teeth, severe gum disease, or most of your teeth have been damaged by an oral injury, full arch dentures may be right for you.

To begin the process, all of your remaining teeth must be extracted. This is done a few months before you receive your dentures since your mouth must heal before your permanent dentures can be created. During this time, you’ll wear a set of temporary full dentures.

When your gums have healed, Dr. Miller will examine your mouth and take impressions of your gums, then work closely with a dental lab to create your permanent dentures. Once your dentures have been completed, you’ll come in for a follow-up appointment to test the fit of the denture. Minor adjustments will be made, if necessary, and when your treatment is complete you’ll leave our office with a beautiful, brand new smile!
